Wine in the City Tour

Discover how Bordeaux's history is intertwined with its wine, without even visiting the vineyards!
On this tour you will experience several treasures of the wine world
located right in the heart of the city of Bordeaux.

What:   This tour starts from the Place Royale, home of the famous wine classification of 1855. Here we learn about Bordeaux's historic riverfront port and the role it played in the wine trade from the Middle Ages till modern day.

Next, we will hop-on the city's sleek, modern tram to go visit the Wine Museum, le Musée du Vin et du Négoce, housed in the wine cellar of an 18th century building, originally a wine merchant's home. We will delve into the history of Bordeaux wines as well as the role of the négociant in the preparation and distribution of these wines. After a guided tour through the museum’s exhibits,  we will have the opportunity to enjoy  some delicious Bordeaux wines at the museum’s tasting room.

Then, we will stroll through the Chartrons neighborhood, the city's historic district used by wine merchants and barrel makers for the past 300 years.  Fast becoming the city's chic neighborhood with cafés, open-market plazas and other surprises, the Chartrons is often paralleled to Paris's intimate Marais district because of its charm. We will see some of the old chais, some of which are 300 meters long,  which were built to age and blend the Bordeaux wines.  Today, we will see their reuse as apartments, shops, art galleries and university classrooms !

Finally, we will conclude this tour with an additional tasting at a lovely wine bar in the heart of the Chartrons neighborhood with broad selection of Bordeaux wines that will provide a relaxing and entertaining conclusion to our tour.

The flavors, colors and history of Bordeaux's wine will come alive for you on this tour.
